Twitch is one of the few services that managed to squeeze the dominant in all areas of YouTube video broadcasts. Starting in 2011, after two years, Twitch in terms of traffic ranked fourth in the US, having an audience of 45 million unique visitors every month. Such success attracted the attention of the market giants and the service was purchased by one of them, Amazon.
In turn, in the summer of 2016 Twitch bought Curse – a developer of software for games and their translation. Since then, work began on creating your own desktop application, which allows you to monitor the service broadcasts outside the browser. It was the Curse client that became the basis for the Twitch Desktop App.
First of all, functionally Twitch Desktop App is in no way inferior to the browser version: VOD (video on demand), videos, online broadcasts, chats, the ability to support your favorite streamers with a subscription or bits – everything is in place. However, as a stand-alone application, the Desktop App has a number of advantages, such as improved performance and features of integration with the OS: minimization in the tray when minimizing, autorun after powering on the PC, and the like.
Completion of the broadcast session is no longer an obstacle to communication between spectators. Thanks to their own servers, in the Twitch Desktop App they will be able to stay in touch 24/7 in chats or voice rooms.
In general, the application has become more focused on social interactions and community formation. Here and voice calls (in the browser version only text messages are available), and group video broadcasts.
It is very important that CurseForge was transferred from the Curse client to the Twitch Desktop App (thus saving) CurseForge – a huge collection of mods for World of Warcraft, Skyrim, Minecraft and many other games.
The program supports synchronization with the Twitch.TV account, text and voice chats, as well as video calls in HD-quality for five users, with the ability to display the screen. With the help of the application you can install add-ons for games and manage them. In the future, developers promise to add to the program the functionality of the cloud storage, which will allow you to synchronize the settings between several computers
